Seattle Hempfest 2016 Could Be Biggest One Ever

This weekend one of the U.S.’s largest cannabis festivals is taking place in Seattle, Washington. The Seattle Hempfest will bring in over 100,000 people.

Seattle Hempfest 2016

Long Story Short

This weekend is a big one for the world of cannabis culture. That’s because one of the U.S.’s largest annual cannabis festivals will be taking place in Seattle, Washington. Every year, Seattle Hempfest brings in right around 100,000 festival goers. And many people involved with the Seattle cannabis scene think this year could be the biggest one ever.

A Next Level Cannabis Festival

Seattle Hempfest is one of the world’s premiere cannabis festivals. Here’s a taste of what’s in store at this year’s event:

  • Six stages for tons of musical performances
  • 400 arts and crafts exhibits
  • tons of food vendors from throughout the Seattle region
  • cannabis companies and advocacy groups
  • pro-cannabis lawmakers, activists, and speakers

It’s going to be a non-stop celebration of all things cannabis. And there are a couple of performances that will send the entire thing to the next level.

A Tacoma-based recreational dispensary called Clear Choice Cannabis is sponsoring a huge performance by Chief Greenbud. They’re also bringing rapper Sir Mix-A-Lot to their booth where fans can hang out with the hip-hop legend.

Chief Greenbud has built a reputation as one of the most devoted marijuana musicians in the world. And many people are anticipating his performance to be a highlight of the entire weekend.

“We are excited for the opportunity to help the artists reach the local cannabis community and further spread the knowledge on how amazing and versatile the cannabis plant is for the world,” said Clear Choice Cannabis co-founder Adam Schmidt. “We believe in the value of these type of events. It gets the community involved, and you can’t ask for much more than that.”

Not Just A Festival

Seattle Hempfest is often called a “protestival.” It’s called that because it focuses on bringing together politics, activism, culture, and celebration. People lucky enough to make it to Seattle this weekend can listen to music, learn about activism, and check out the latest cannabis products.

The political and activist side of things will be especially relevant this year. That’s because just last week the DEA denied a petition to reschedule cannabis. The agency doubled down on its position that cannabis has no medical benefits and is a highly dangerous drug.

But Seattle Hempfest wants to challenge all that. In particular, organizers want to focus on:

  • getting cannabis removed from the Controlled Substances Act
  • urging the government to release all non-violent prisoners who are locked up for marijuana charges
  • expunge records of people who were arrested for marijuana charges
  • improving parental rights
  • getting more legal protections for medical marijuana patients

The Nitty Gritty Details

Seattle Hempfest will run from August 19 to August 21. It will take place along Seattle’s waterfront. And while the festival is technically free, organizers are encouraging people to donate $10. You can check out details at the event’s official website.
