Resin Sustainability: How To Get The Most Out Of Your Bowl

To be a next-level smoker, you need to get as much out of your stash as you can. Resin sustainability is about saving the useful leftovers from your weed.

The starting place to true resin sustainability is to remember the “Three Rules of the Glass Bowl:”

  1. Preserve resin.
  2. Get high.
  3. Save cash.

Here’s how to put those rules to work.

Resin Sustainability: An Introduction

Resin Sustainability: How To Get The Most Out Of Your Bowl

Seriously, the prime reason to get all that dark, ashy sludge out of your glass bowls and pipes is that you don’t want that sticky stuff ruining a fresh green portion with brown clogs and clumps.

But don’t just toss it. That sh*t is valuable, and resin sustainability helps you get maximum value from every last sticky drop of leftover resin. In the long run, this will let you smoke more weed at a lower cost.

So clean that pipe yo!

Since resin elsewhere is a hassle — killing blunts worldwide since blunts were a thing — we’re going to focus exclusively on scraping leftover resin from your glass bowls and ceramic pipes before it goes to waste.

By cleaning out your piece and saving your leftover resin, you can smoke that CBD-rich goo between buys, or when you’re running low. You can also enjoy even better rips when you can afford to get more real bud.

There’s a simple way to clean resin out of a one-hitter: a pot of boiling water. With some household items like a pair of tongs, a knife, a paper clip, and notebook paper, you can clean your bowl, too.

After a good pipe-cleaning, prepare to splurge on some hits from the dregs that came from scouring the inner canal of your favorite, formerly gunked up piece.

It looks gross, but when you’re broke, or otherwise too lazy or stoned to get weed, a smooth resin hit is enough to quench that bud thirst.

Cleaning Your Pipe For Resin

Step 1: Boil water

First, get four cups of water boiling in a small pot. When it reaches a rolling boil, carefully place your emptied glass bowl into the water. To avoid breaking your pipe, use tongs to gently dip it beneath the surface of the water and then lower it in.

Step 2: Move the pipe around to loosen the resin

While the water’s boiling, use the tongs to shake the pipe in the boiling water. Again, be gentle with it and be sure you don’t knock it against the sides of the pot.

As you move your pipe around, black clumps of resin will start coming loose. The water will darken as those black clumps from the inside of the pipe pop out.

Continue to agitate the bowl in the hot water for five to seven minutes, depending on the dankness of your bowl. (How long has it been since you last cleaned it? Let that be a guide.)

Step 3: Retrieve the resin

When you’ve dislodged as much resin as you think you can, take it out of the boiling water. When the water has cooled, carefully pour it through a fine mesh strainer. Harvest whatever resin stays behind.

Now it’s time to turn your attention back to the pipe. As it cools, unfold a paper clip so you can scrape the inside of the bowl and chamber.

Dip the end of the paper clip into the bowl or carb and pull out the resin repeatedly. Swipe the sticky paper clip full of resin on a piece of paper and let the clumps completely dry out.

Step 4: Let dry and get high

Once the resin has dried enough to be sticky to the touch and is no longer damp, pack the clumps into your bowl. Light it and get baked.

And then spread the gospel of resin sustainability to all your buds suffering pangs from a low stash.

Pro Tip: If you’re looking for another way to squeeze the most out of your stash, don’t forget to clean out your grinder so you can put your little kief stash to good use.
