The Australian actor has been diagnosed with cancer once again. But this time, Olivia Newton-John is using medical marijuana to treat her cancer in addition to more traditional therapies.

Medical marijuana is becoming more common among cancer patients. Sadly, singer and actress Olivia Newton-John is currently dealing with her second bout of breast cancer. In May, she announced that the cancer had returned. But there’s a beacon of hope: Olivia Newton-John is using medical marijuana to treat her cancer. And if anything, she’s ready for the battle ahead.

Cannabis As A Cure

The 68-year-old Australian import first rose to international fame in the role of doe-eyed, charmingly naive do-gooder Sandy in the movie-musical adaptation of “Grease.”

In 1992, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent chemotherapy and had a partial mastectomy.

Then this past May, she announced that the cancer had returned. Since her original battle with the illness, the cancer had metastasized to the sacrum, a bone in the lower half of her back.

This time around, Newton-John has declared her intention to add another component to her regimen: medical marijuana.

“I use medicinal cannabis, which is really important for pain and healing,” she said. “It’s a plant that has been maligned for so long, and has so many abilities to heal.”

Medicinal cannabis is known to alleviate pain and discomfort brought on by the adverse effects of chemotherapy. Additionally, cannabidiol (CBD) found within the plant also has healing properties. For example, a recent study concluded that CBD could actually destroy leukemia cells.
Newton-John also relayed her belief in accordance with this theory. She is now publicly advocating for the widespread use of the plant in all aspects of the medical field at large.

“I will do what I can to encourage it,” Newton-John said recently. “It’s an important part of treatment, and it should be available.”

Final Hit: Olivia Newton-John Is Using Medical Marijuana To Treat Her Cancer

Newton-John has talked about her preparedness for her well-informed decision. She described receiving consultations from doctors at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre, which she herself founded after her own trials and tribulations with cancer.

“I decided on my direction of therapies after consultation with my doctors and natural therapists and the medical team at my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia,” the star wrote at the time.

It looks like, as Newton-John once sang to John Travolta in the classic movie “Grease:” “you’re the one that I want.”
