Music and Weed At the Same Store? Here Take All My Money!

Shopping for Music Might Get Even Better

If Amoeba Music in Berkeley, California gets its way, cannabis enthusiasts in the Bay Area can pick up their favorite albums and their favorite strains at the same time.

The popular music shop is currently applying to become Berkeley’s fourth medical marijuana dispensary.

“There have always been connections between cannabis and music making,” Marc Weinstein, co-founder and co-owner of Amoeba Music, says.

Weinstein predicts that if his store is allowed to sell medicinal marijuana, it will bring in droves of new customers. According to Weinstein, the increased activity would benefit not only Amoeba but the surrounding community as well.

“It would help anchor , benefit bookstores, record stores, cafes and add a lot of excellent traffic to ,” he says.

Berkeley currently has three medical cannabis dispensaries, and although voters approved the introduction of a fourth dispensary in 2010, the city has yet to follow through. If all goes well, Amoeba Music’s application approval and dispensary license will fill that void.

“We think it makes a lot of sense for the city, on so many fronts, to consider us over other applicants who are from out of town,” says Weinstein.

Many smokers see good music and good herb as true companions that work together to create powerful experiences. And since Berkeley is already a hotbed for innovative artistic, cultural, and political scenes, it is a great place to start combining record shops with cannabis dispensaries.

Amoeba Music’s bid for Berkeley’s fourth medicinal cannabis dispensary is a match made in heaven for marijuana users who like smoking to good tunes.
