Marijuana Portraits Take Art To New Highs

Marijuana portraits are pictures that are made out of actual marijuana bud. Because of that, they’re probably the last thing you’d expect to see at your typical art museum.

But that hasn’t kept these artists from letting their love of cannabis take their art to brand new “highs.”

In fact, it seems like the ability to mix things up by using cannabis to create stunning pictures has fueled them to produce some seriously innovative work.

Here are some of our favorites:

Marijuana Portraits – Dr. Dre

French artist Vivi Mac made this amazing portrait of Dr. Dre entirely out of ground up bud. She topped the whole thing off with a full cannabis leaf in the upper corner.

This has got to be the absolute best way of making a picture of the musician whose most famous album is called “The Chronic.” Dre would definitely be proud.

Marijuana Portraits – Snoop Dogg

You know we’ve got to follow up a portrait of Dr. Dre with one of Snoop Dogg. The two rappers have collaborated on tons of projects that have helped establish them as some of the kingpins of the rap world.

Artist Jason Mecier made this marijuana masterpiece. Along with bud, it uses joints, leaves, stems, and something that looks like it could be hash.

Marijuana Portraits – Wiz Khalifa

Artist Tyler Remikie decided to pay homage to Wiz Khalifa by using the thing that probably inspires the musician more than anything else. Weed.

Check out this video of Remikie building the portrait. In it he uses a razor blade to cut up a fat sack of green. He then carefully arranges the bud to make the shape of Wiz’s face.

Khalifa has long been a cannabis culture hero. On 4/20 Wiz Khalifa is launching a new cannabis strain called Khalifa Kush.

Marijuana Portraits – Nick Diaz

Nick Diaz might not be as much of a household name as Dre, Snoop, or Khalifa. But there’s a good reason why an artist might decide to make a portrait of him using nothing but ganja.

Diaz is a two-time world champion MMA fighter. And he’s gotten in trouble throughout his career for smoking weed.

He was most recently suspended for five years by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after testing positive for marijuana.

Despite all this Diaz apparently remains committed to cannabis.

“If I’m going to train all day, when I get done, I’m gonna want to smoke,” he said earlier this year.

“If I have to go and train all day, before I go, I’m gonna want to smoke. If I wake up in the morning and feel beat to sh*t, and it’s going to take me forever to wake up, I smoke some weed and I wake right up.”

Nick Lindsey

Nick is a Green Rush Daily staff writer from Fort Collins, Colorado. He has been at the epicenter of the cannabis boom from the beginning. He holds a Masters in English Literature and a Ph.D. in cannabis (figuratively of course).
