You’re probably wondering: Does Salma Hayek smoke weed? She’s a prominent actress and well-known women’s rights activist. Is she also a proponent of pot? Or does she not enjoy toking up after a long day of filming?
Who Is Salma Hayek?
Salma Hayek is a superstar. Born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico to a wealthy family, she received a top-notch education at an early age. When she was twelve, she moved to the United States.
There, she attended the Louisiana-based school Academy of the Sacred Heart. She returned to Mexico for her higher education. She was accepted to Universidad Iberoamericana. While in university, she studied International Relations.
Hayek was twenty-three years old when she landed her first significant acting role. It was the starring role in the Mexican telenovela “Teresa.” It premiered in 1989 and turned Hayek into a celebrity.
In 1991, Hayek moved back to the United States. This time, to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career. Despite her dyslexia and limited English, she landed a principal role in the 1995 film “Desperado,” which also starred Antonio Banderas.
Because she made such an impression on the director, Robert Rodriguez, she won the role of a vampire queen in the 1996 horror-action flick From “Dusk Til Dawn.” In this role, she danced on a table with a live snake.
With well over sixty credits to her name, one of Hayek’s most critically acclaimed roles was the titular role in the 2002 biopic “Frida,” which told the turbulent tale of the Mexican surrealist artist Frida Kahlo. Most recently, she starred in the dramedy “Beatriz at Dinner.”
In addition to being a prominent figure in the Hollywood film industry, Salma Hayek is also a political activist. Her primary focus is women’s rights and welfare.
She has donated $75,000 to women’s shelters and anti-domestic violence organizations. She is also on the board of V-Day, a global organization with the mission of combating violence against women and girls.
Although she once rejected the label, Hayek now openly and proudly calls herself a feminist.
Puff or Pass?
So does this prominent actress and activist like to kick back with some cannabis?
In 2008, a story erupted that during part of the filming of the film “Bandidas,” Hayek and her co-star Penélope Cruz stayed at a drug trafficker’s home in Mexico. The house belonged to Sergio Villareal Barragán. Known as “El Grande,” Barragán was wanted for murdering several police officers and trafficking drugs.
Both women released statements denying any knowledge of the identity of the property owner. An honest mistake, surely. If anyone was to blame, it was the production crew for failing to do their research before arranging the accommodations.
Other than that, Salma Hayek has not been connected to anything even remotely related to drugs. Well, except for that time she played a cartel leader in the 2012 film “Savages.”
Final Hit: Does Salma Hayek Smoke Weed?
Does Salma Hayek smoke weed? Or is she not keen on the green? She has never stated that she smokes weed. Not in public, at least. While she has been photographed smoking cigarettes, the paparazzi has never caught her lighting up a joint.
Hayek is a political activist, but so far, it doesn’t appear that she’s branched out to cannabis activism or even hemp activism. We’re not sure if Salma Hayek smokes weed, but it doesn’t look like she does. That’s okay. We love her anyway.
