Cannabis-Infused Vodka From Humboldt’s Finest

Humboldt’s Finest Cannabis-Infused Vodka

Humboldt County, California is famous for the massive amounts of cannabis that’s grown on its oceanside hills. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that it’s also the birthplace of a brand new cannabis-infused vodka called. Humboldt Distillery makes the cannabis-infused vodka. The company is calling their new drink “Humboldt’s Finest.”

At this point, you’re probably already thinking to yourself: OK, but will it get me high?

Humboldt Distillery’s owner and head distiller, Abe Stevens, explained that part in a press release:

“We’ve been selling our original Organic Vodka for more than two years now. As the vodka has grown in popularity I’ve found more and more consumers asking us to add some of the ‘local flavor’ to our alcohol,” he said.

“That obviously wouldn’t be legal for us to do, but I couldn’t ignore the consumer demand. My solution was to come up with a compromise that captures a bit of that character without breaking any laws.”

That compromise: Stevens uses food-grade cannabis with very low levels of THC. In fact, the vodka is infused with cannabis that contains less than 0.3% THC.

THC levels that small means that the cannabis used to make this vodka are legally classified as “hemp” rather than “marijuana.”

So no, drinking this cannabis-infused vodka won’t get you high.

But, according to Stevens, it will still give pot enthusiasts a new way to bring that unique, spicy, flowery, herbal cannabis flavor into other drinks and food.

“It does, however, retain an herbal and aromatic quality reminiscent of fresh marijuana, and we’ve found it works very well in place of gin, giving classic cocktails a fresh new spin,” Stevens said.

Currently, Humboldt’s Finest will only be sold in California and Colorado.

This innovative attempt to bring together the worlds of liquor and cannabis represents yet another step in the ever-expanding world of marijuana edibles—and, to be more accurate, drinkables.

Just last month, a Colorado-based Cannabis company began selling pre-packaged “shots” of a drinkable cannabis elixir. Unlike Humboldt’s cannabis-infused vodka, these shots were designed to give drinkers a real dose of THC.

The creators of this ganja goodie say that the drinkable form gives drinkers fast-acting and long-lasting effects.

More generally, the edibles market has been picked up some serious steam in recent months. A study of the cannabis industry found that edibles accounted for nearly half of the $5.4 billion in legal marijuana sales in 2015.
