How To Make Cannabis-Infused Donuts

Cannabis-infused donuts, you ask? Luckily, we got your back. Take a look at this revolutionary spin on the classic glazed donut.

Got a hankering for some donuts? Well, that might just be the munchies. What if someone told you that instead of pre-gaming your donut binge by getting stoned, you can pre-game getting stoned with a donut binge? No, this is not donut-ception. We’re just talking about cannabis-infused donuts. If you’re one of those people who prefer to ingest their weed, rather than smoke it, you’re going to want to learn how to make cannabis-infused donuts. It’s absolutely big-time. Check it out.

Ingredients

Essentially, the recipe for cannabis-infused donuts is exactly the same as it would be for regular donuts. Except, you’re simply swapping out the regular butter for cannabutter. We derived our own recipe from a simple procedure from the New York Times but added a cannabis-infused twist.

Here’s what you’re going to need:

  • 1¼ cups of milk
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ cup of confectioner’s sugar
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons of active dry yeast
  • 2 cups of a neutral oil of your choice (vegetable, canola, etc.)
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 4 ¼ cups of flour (plus a little extra to roll the dough)

Worried you didn’t see any weed? Well, that’s where the glaze comes in to play.

For the glaze, you’ll need:

  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 Tablespoons hot water
  • 1/3 Cup of Cannabutter
  • Now, it’s time to get cooking.

Directions

1. Heat Up the Milk

For step one, heat up the milk until warm, and then combine it with the yeast. Stir it for about five minutes, until it becomes foamy.

2. Mix it Up

Using an electric mixer fitted with a dough hook, and mix the eggs, butter, salt, and sugar into the yeast mixture. Mix in half the flour until it combines, then dump in the rest until there is no dough remaining on the sides of the bowl. If the dough becomes too thick to beat, take it out of the bowl and put it onto a floured surface. Then, manually knead the dough until it’s smooth. Grease another bowl, and simply put the yeast in. Cover the bowl, and wait one hour for the yeast to rise.

3. Cut Into Donut Shapes

The next step is where you see the donuts take form. First, put the dough onto a well-floured surface. Now, you can either use a donut cutter or do it manually. If you happen to have a donut cutter, roll the dough out onto the floured surface, and get it to about a 1/2 inch of thickness. You can keep the excess scraps to knead into more dough, which can be used for a mini-donut, or whatever your little heart desires. If you’re doing it manually, cut the dough into strips of 4 or 6, depending on how big you want the donuts. Stretch each piece out like a rope, and keep it around an inch to an inch and a half wide. Then, roll the strips into a ball with your hands, and punch out the hole in the middle. You can use a shot glass, or even a standard drinking glass depending on how large the donut is.

4. Let it Rise

Distribute the donuts between two floured baking sheets, or any surface where the donuts are well spread out. Cover them up with a towel, and let them rise. Ideally, they should be in a warm area to rise. You can achieve the correct temperature by heating the oven to around 200 degrees, then turn it off. When it’s off, place the trays of in the oven. It should take about 45 to 50 minutes for the dough to rise to perfection. You’ll know they are ready when they are slightly puffed up. About 15 minutes before the dough has fully risen, put your oil in a large pot, and heat it to about 375º F.

5. Cook the Donuts

Now, it’s time to start cooking these donuts. Place each donut in the oil, and cook until golden brown on each side. This should typically take around one to two minutes. Make sure you don’t put too many donuts in at once, so they don’t overcrowd and stick to one another. Take the donuts out, and dry them on either a paper towel, or ideally, a cooling rack lined with cloth.

6. Make the Glaze

Now, comes the most important part of making cannabis-infused donuts— the glaze. Luckily, this is arguably also the simplest part of the operation. Simply combine the cannabutter, sugar, vanilla extract and hot water, and mix it all together. When the donuts are cool enough to handle, dunk them in the glaze. Put the donuts back on the cooling rack, and wait for them to harden.

How To Make Cannabis-Infused Donuts

While this may be somewhat of an extensive process compared to other weed-infused munchies, it’s well worth the time. Especially if you are a donut fiend. Between making the cannabutter, and the long prep time for the donuts itself, it’s going to be a long process. Maybe grab a few friends (if you have them) and have them pitch in, so the process can go a little smoother. Either way, you’re going to wanna try these things out. Big time.
