The demonization and association of marijuana to crime, violence, and gangs have long been tools in government and society to sustain systemic racism and corporate profits.

Many opponents of legalization argue that legal weed will bring about more violence and crimes.

As stated above, violent crime went down in Denver after marijuana became legal.

Additionally, early evidence from Colorado and Washington suggest violent crime and property damage went down within a year of retail pot sales.

On top of that, burglaries fell 9.5% with property crimes dropping by 8.9 percent.

A study from 2012 observed, “whether the density of medical marijuana dispensaries is associated with crime.”

The study found “there were no observed cross-sectional associations between the density of medical marijuana dispensaries and either violent or property crime rates in this study.”

So legal weed causing more crime is just a myth used to put the brake on legalization.

If anything the opposite seems to be the pattern. More weed fewer problems apparently.

On the other hand, legal substances like alcohol are more closely associated with violent crimes.
