Franco Loja, Cannabis Legend Dies At 42

Cannabis legend Franco Loja died on January 2, 2017. Throughout his life, he was an outspoken advocate of marijuana. And through his work as a media figure, cannabis business owner, and world famous seed breeder and grower, he helped advance the entire world of cannabis.

Franco Loja A Legendary Figure

Loja was deeply committed to all things cannabis. And he has the resume to prove it.

In particular, he was committed to finding and breeding the world’s best cannabis strains. To that end, he teamed up with Arjan Roskam at Green House Seed Co., which is based in Amsterdam.

Loja was the seed company’s head breeder. In that role, he helped create a lineup of strains, plants, and seeds that consistently won awards around the world.

But his work wasn’t limited only to breeding and growing. In fact, he’s probably more well known for his work on the company’s YouTube documentary series “Strain Hunters.”

In that role, Loja traveled the world seeking out the best strains he could find. And along the way, he introduced the world to some of the best, most under-recognized growers.

Millions of viewers have watched his “Strain Hunters” videos. As a result, Loja has become one of the most well known and iconic figures in today’s cannabis scene.

Untimely Death

News of Loja’s untimely death first surfaced on January 2. There still haven’t been any official announcements about the cause of his death.

But the Greenhouse Seeds website has been redirecting visitors to a tribute page. That page has the following message:

Franco is an icon and helped change so many peoples lives. He will deeply be missed as a brother, father, son, friend and so much more.

Along with that tribute, the page shows a series of pictures of Loja working in the field. It also includes a quote from the man himself:

Cannabis is my passion, my bread, my home. I feel it is my duty to make sure this amazing plant is preserved and enjoyed. I am a smoker, a grower, a breeder, and a strain hunter.

And that passion is exactly what Loja is most well known for. It is what cannabis fans around the world will remember him for. And it is what the cannabis community will miss the most.

The Final Hit

So far, there hasn’t been any official word about the cause of Loja’s death. But inside reports suggest that he may have died from malaria while working abroad. We will update this article as soon as we hear further details.

But what matters most is the legacy he left behind. His deep commitment to cannabis has truly made him a legend.

No matter what he was doing—breeding, growing, smoking, traveling the world looking for new strains, or documenting his efforts on “Strain Hunters”–he remained focused on making the best strains more accessible. His work has already benefited untold thousands of cannabis consumers around the world. And it will continue to do so far into the future.
