How To Clean A Vaporizer Pen: A Step-by-Step Guide

A clean vaporizer will afford you the biggest and cleanest hits. No matter what style, we’ve got you covered with this guide on how to clean a vaporizer.

How To Clean A Vaporizer Pen (Dry Herb)

A clean vaporizer pen will afford you the biggest and cleanest hits possible. Fortunately, keeping your vaporizer pen clean is super simple. No matter what style you use, we have you covered with this detailed guide on how to clean a vaporizer pen.

Vaporizing herb is becoming a more and more popular method of getting high. Inhaling vapor is a lot less harsh on the lungs than smoke. Plus, marijuana vapor is significantly less odorous than marijuana smoke, allowing you to indulge discreetly wherever you are.

When it comes to vaporizing, many people opt to use a vaporizer pen. Their light weight and small size make them perfect for getting high on the go. Simply slip the pen in your purse, pocket, or backpack, and pull it out whenever you want to take a puff.

Dry herb pens are designed to vaporize dry flowers – just like the kind you’d smoke. That makes the process of cleaning them pretty easy because the dry herb isn’t as sticky as wax or juice.

Step 1: Assemble your materials

To clean your dry herb pen, all you need is the following:

  • Cleaning brush if included with your pen
  • Q-tips
  • A glass
  • Rubbing alcohol

Step 2: Knock out any loose herb

Open up your pen just as you would if you were preparing to load it with some herb. All you’re going to do here is gently tap the pen against a table or other surface to knock any loose flowers out of the chamber.

It’s important not to do this directly over a trash can because many of these pens have a small glass screen in the chamber as well that you’re going to want to keep. So if your glass screen falls out, be sure to set it aside.

Step 3: Brush the inside of the vaporizer chamber

Now take the cleaning brush included with your pen and gently brush out any of the more densely packed flowers that didn’t come out in the last step.

If your pen did not come with a cleaning brush, a Q-tip would work fine as well. Poking around in the chamber will sufficiently loosen all the remaining herb left in your pen.

Be careful not to snag, jostle, or otherwise disturb the coil at the bottom of the chamber. If it gets damaged in any way, the pen will no longer be able to vaporize your herb.

Again, keep your eyes peeled for a small glass screen if your pen has one. Once you’ve brushed out all the weed from your chamber, we’re going to be cleaning that screen next.

Step 4: Submerge your glass screen in rubbing alcohol

Take the screen from inside the chamber and drop it into an empty glass. Now take the rubbing alcohol and pour it into the glass until the screen is totally submerged.

Allowing the alcohol to engulf the screen gets any little bits of resin or other particles off of it, keeping it in perfect working order. Leave the screen in the glass while you perform the next step.

Step 5: Clean the chamber threading

Take a Q-tip and dip it into that glass of rubbing alcohol to soak the tip. Now hold the chamber upside down and gently rub the Q-tip along the threading of the chamber.

You don’t want to go past the threading here – just a light swishing around of the Q-tip at the edge will sufficiently remove any gunk built up in the threading.

Once that sticky resin has been removed, take the other end of the Q-tip (the dry end) and swab around it some more to dry the area.

Step 6: Dry the screen and reassemble

Now take your screen out of the glass of alcohol and allow it to dry. You can either wait a few minutes or lightly dry it with a paper towel or Q-tip.

Once you’ve done that, simply put it back in the chamber. Screw the chamber back closed, and voila: your dry herb vaporizer pen is as good as new.

How To Clean A Vaporizer Pen (Wax and Concentrates)

Vaporizer pens that use solid, waxy concentrates, and those that use oil or “e-juice,” are a little messier because the wax and oil they use are very sticky.

They tend to build up around the pen’s threading, causing it to be difficult to open. Luckily, the process of cleaning these pens can be done in just a couple of steps.

Step 1: Assemble your materials

Here’s what you’ll need to clean your wax or juice vaporizer pen:

  • Q-tips
  • Rubbing alcohol

Step 2: Clean the threading of the top half of the vaporizer pen

Unscrew your pen, and you’ll have two sections. For now, we’ll tackle the top half or the half connected to the mouthpiece. Set the bottom half aside.

Cleaning this half is as simple as soaking your Q-tip in rubbing alcohol and cleaning the threading inside the chamber.

Hold it upside down and diligently scrub until there’s no more gunk on the threading. If your pen hasn’t been cleaned in awhile, your Q-tip should look pretty gnarly by the time you’re done.

Step 3: Clean the threading of the bottom half of the pen

Now grab the other half of the pen. You’re going to be doing the same thing to the threading here that you just did to the first half. Simply wet the end of a Q-tip in rubbing alcohol, and scrub away at the threading until all the waxy gook is completely gone.

It’s important to avoid using the Q-tip inside the chamber here because that’s where the coil is. If you disturb it too much it may stop working, so do not touch the coil at all with the Q-tip.

Simply cleaning the threading on the outside is more than sufficient to keep your pen in excellent working order.

Step 4: Reassemble

Once you’ve gotten all the gunk off of both sections of the pen, simply screw it back together, and you’re done. Your pen will now screw and unscrew just as easily as it did the day you got it.

The Final Hit

No matter what the variety, vaporizer pens are unmatched regarding portability and convenience. Keeping yours clean will ensure it lasts a long time, and consistently delivers flavorful, robust hits.

Keep this guide on “how to clean a vaporizer” handy, and you should have no trouble maintaining a squeaky clean pen for years to come.
