Railing Collapses At Wiz Khalifa And Snoop Dogg Concert, 42 Injured

Railing Collapses At Concert

Long Story Short

More than 40 concertgoers were injured last Friday during a Snoop Dogg concert when a railing dropped. In a video of the incident, dozens of bodies can be seen dropping about 10 feet down and piling on top of each other. The crowd was reportedly excited by Snoop and Wiz calling for the audience to “Stand Up.” Apparently, the crowd got a little too hype, and many people rushed towards the stage. The combined pressure on the railing caused it to collapse.

The Details

The railing dropped at about 10:30 PM, at the BB&T Pavilion in Camden, New Jersey. The reported injuries included broken bones, bumps, bruises, and even a critical upper body injury. According to Camden County officials the one person who was critically injured was rushed to the Cooper Trauma Center. The name of the wounded concertgoer and further details on their injury has yet to be disclosed.

One concertgoer, Katie Colbridge said that Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa had just moved onto a secondary stage that was closer to where the railing fell over. In several of the videos of the incident you can hear one of the performers yelling from the microphone for the audience to “Stand up.” Shortly after this, the railing gives in, and bodies begin to fall.

The railing was intended to separate the sloping lawn from a covered portion of the hall at the middle of the venue. The railing apparently failed where support poles met a concrete support wall.

After the fall, Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa were escorted off stage as security rushed in to assist the injured fans.

Many people limped away after the fall while others were evacuated by medics. There were stretchers and cots set up next to the venue’s parking lot where many of the less severely injured were being treated.

The concert was only about halfway through before the interruption. In one of the videos, an announcer can be heard asking concertgoers to remain calm and that the show would resume shortly. However, the organizers of the concert ended up canceling the rest of the show, and the pavilion was emptied out.

The BB&T Pavilion has been a music venue since 1995 when it opened as Blockbuster-Sony Music Entertainment Center. Although the venue has undergone several name changes, renovations have rarely occurred. The 25,000 seat venue is not much different than when it was originally constructed.

Final Hit

It’s about time the BB&T Pavilion music venue saw some renovations to avoid any further incidents. After the incident, Snoop tweeted “prayers out to my fans. Wishin u all a quick recovery. Love.” Wiz added, “Hope everyone from last night is alright. That shit was crazy.” The person who was most critically injured was released from the hospital on Saturday. With no fatal injuries, things could have been much worse. Hopefully, in the future, Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg will perform in venues that are physically equipped to handle the energy of their audiences.
