Discover The Powers And Pleasures Of Cannabis Infused Coconut Oil

A batch of cannabis infused coconut oil can be used for all sorts of things from baking to skin therapy to treating health conditions.

Cannabis infused coconut oil is an amazing cannabis product that you can easily make right at home. The key is in the oil’s fat content. THC binds to fat cells, and since coconut oil has a very high-fat content, it’s capable of pulling out tons of THC. Once you’ve made a batch of cannabis infused coconut oil, you can use it for all sorts of things from baking to skin therapy to treating a variety of health conditions.

How To Make Cannabis Infused Coconut Oil

Making cannabis infused coconut oil is a pretty straightforward process. The whole process will take anywhere from 12 to 18 hours, so be sure you pick a day where you can periodically check in on your oil’s progress.

What You Need

  • 16 ounces organic virgin coconut oil
  • 1-3 ounces dried cannabis
  • Water
  • Crockpot
  • Strainer
  • Cheesecloth
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Food thermometer

The Process

Step 1:

Grind the cannabis bud. You want a relatively fine grind, but not so much that it’s powdery. You want as much surface area as possible that will be exposed to the oil, but you don’t want it so fine that it’s hard to strain out of the oil at the end of the day.

Step 2:

Put the coconut oil in your crockpot. Add enough water so the oil can freely float around in the pot. Set the crockpot to high until the oil is completely melted.

Step 3:

Once the oil is liquefied, carefully add the ground up cannabis. Stir it around until it’s evenly distributed throughout the oil.

Step 4:

Use your thermometer to test the temperature. When it reaches 250° Fahrenheit turn the crock pot to low. Stir the cannabis-oil mixture. Let the entire thing simmer.

Step 5:

Every hour or so check the mixture. Be sure it’s between 250° and 270°. Also be sure there’s enough water to keep the cannabis totally submerged. You don’t want the water to evaporate out otherwise you might start burning the coconut oil or worse yet, the cannabis. Adjust the crockpot’s temperature and add water as needed.

Step 6:

After 12 to 18 hours, the oil should be done. At that point, all the THC in the cannabis should be absorbed into the fatty cells of the coconut oil. The constant heat will also decarboxylate the THC so that it’s fully active and ready to go.

Step 7:

Let the whole thing cool a bit until you can safely handle it, but before the oil solidifies. Line the strainer with the cheesecloth and very carefully pour the oil-cannabis-water mixture through the cheesecloth and into a large mixing bowl. Carefully squeeze out as much liquid as you can from the plant material in the cheesecloth.

Step 8:

Place the mixing bowl in the refrigerator overnight. As it cools the THC-infused oil will rise to the top of the water and solidify. In the morning, carefully lift off the oil and dump the water. Put the oil in a container and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to use it.
