Using Pot While Pregnant Could Cause Harm to Both Mother and Baby

Using Pot While Pregnant

A new study says that using pot while pregnant could cause harm to both the mother and the baby. The project was completed by a group of researchers in Arizona.

In it, they reviewed stats and data from 24 separate studies. The purpose was to try and figure out what effects marijuana might have on pregnant mothers and their babies.

After analyzing all the information, the research team identified a couple patterns. They found that women who were using pot while pregnant were more likely to become anemic than women who didn’t.

They also said that marijuana use could affect babies as well. Infants who were exposed to cannabis while in the womb tended to have lower birth weights than babies that weren’t.

“Use of cannabis during pregnancy may increase adverse outcomes for women and their ,” the researchers wrote.

“As use of cannabis gains social acceptance, pregnant women and their medical providers could benefit from health education on potential adverse effects of use of cannabis during pregnancy.”

The study was published this week in the scientific medical journal BMJ Open.

Those involved with the project also said that more research is needed. That would help doctors better understand the effects cannabis might have on pregnant women and babies.

One possible area that could use more research has to do with whether marijuana is good for morning sickness.

Many women have said that marijuana helped with bad bouts of morning sickness. And while some doctors are willing to explore this possibility, others are not as excited about the idea.

Another important study about marijuana and pregnancy came toward the end of 2015.

In this one, researchers found that babies exposed to marijuana in the womb had better eyesight by the time they were four.

At this point, it seems that the one thing researchers tend to agree on is that more research is needed. And that’s exactly what an official statement published by the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists said.

“It is difficult to be certain about the specific effects of marijuana on pregnancy and the developing fetus,” it said.

“High-quality studies regarding the effects of marijuana and other cannabis products on pregnancy and lactation are needed.”
