“Highland,” Amazon’s New Weed-Themed Dramedy, Will Star Comedian and Pot-Activist Margaret Cho

According to entertainment sources at  Variety, Comedian and San Francisco native Margaret Cho is developing a weed-themed “dramedy” for Amazon’s streaming service.

The show is called Highland, and Cho plays a struggling addict who must move back in with her family after attending court-ordered rehab and work at their family-run business: a pot dispensary.

Totally perfect environment for dealing with addiction, right? Interestingly, in some cases marijuana has treated addictions to other substances like cocaine or amphetamines.

Cho is also an executive producer on the project along with Tomorrow Studios, and the writer Elizabeth Sarnoff, who’s worked on shows like Lost and Deadwood, has been listed as showrunner.

Cho is well-known in the cannabis world as a vocal advocate for legalization. A cannabis user herself, Cho is an outspoken and hard-working activist.

She’s even appeared on Snoop Dog’s 4th Annual Thanksgiving Special, on the GGN (double-g network) on Youtube.

Cho, born and raised in San Francisco, began her comedy career at the age of 16, working in local clubs before moving to Los Angeles in the early ’90s.

She would go on to create All-American Girl, the first network sitcom about an Asian-American family. The network made 19 episodes before canceling the series in 1995, but that did not stop her TV career.

Since then, Cho has had a few recurring roles on other shows, and made notable appearances as herself on shows such as The View and Fashion Police, among others.

The show Highland which focuses on the timely topic of a family-run cannabis business, promises to be hilarious. Cho’s twitter already gives a little taste of what’s in store:
